A year ago I moved to Antibes, France. I still remember the first time I came in the area and I wanted to share with you some of the pictures I took in that first trip.
I had to come by train (as I normally travel back and forth from Turin in Italy to Antibes in France).
The path is shared between three trains:
The first: travels between Turin and arrives to the city of Cuneo.
The second: departs from Cuneo, travels through a little piece of France (details in the map below, feel free to play with it), and arrives finally to Ventimiglia in Italy.
The third: goes seriously into France towards Cannes. My destination, Antibes, is just some stations before the end of the road. On our path we visited the country of Monaco and the city of Nice.
I have attached a map in here for your delight. It is a shame that I had to mark the path you should take while traveling by car but just imagine that the train does a very similar path.
I remember that day it was around mid-February. Winter was still on its thoughest point in Italy. You can see the next pictures I took at the Cuneo train station.
Our train got delayed because of the huge amount of snow accumulated in the rails. We were asked to wait for 4 hours until the next train arrived. The following is a picture from outside the train station.
Look at the amount of snow covering the trees!
We departed from Cuneo and headed to the mountains. In the map I added above this is the trail from point B towards C.
After leaving the mountains you get to the Italian border city of Ventimiglia. From there on we could actually start feeling the warm of the Mediterranean sea.
The train rail is super cool from now on, in the map above we are going from point C towards D. Once you get into France you get greeted by this amazing view.
The views were amazing. I remember wearing a coat and tons of winter clothes (did you see the pictures above? they are from the same date, come on!). Getting into this area all suit up for winter and suddenly getting a heat of warm air … it felt kind of weird.
This is Nice’s train station. Look that some people are still wearing winter clothes while the woman in the back is clearly enjoying the weather.
And finally I made it to Antibes train station! It took me only like 6 hours of train travel (with plenty more for waiting to get a better train in Cuneo to cross over the mountains).
It has been such an interesting year so far. I promise to post more pictures of it (and from the French Riviera area) any time soon.
